Head Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor Joao da Rosa is from Nova Friburgo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Professor Joao began practicing martial arts in Capoeira at the age of 5. Joao has been training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 1999. He has also trained in Judo, Muay Thai, and MMA. Joao is a second degree black belt under Master Carlos Machado and Master Renato Magno, who holds a 6th degree black belt and is the first black belt under the Machado brothers as well as the owner of Street Sports headquarters in Los Angeles, CA. Beyond his passion of teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Joao competes regularly in tournaments around the country and leads the competition team at Street Sports Poulsbo. Joao believes that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is for everyone and will have a positive effect in anyone's life no matter their age, size, or athletic ability.​

Yoga teacher and Jiu-Jitsu instructor Bonnie da Rosa began practicing Yoga in 1998 and Jiu-Jitsu in 2013. She graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a Biology degree. She is currently a brown belt in Jiu-Jitsu and competes regularly. Bonnie holds an E-RYT 500 hour Yoga teaching certification, awarded to teachers with over 1,000 hours of teaching experience as well as 500 hours of certified Yoga teacher training. Since her first Yoga teaching certification in 2014, she has taught full time at many distinguished Yoga studios and was selected to teach Yoga at Redbull HQ. Her teaching and practice are rooted in a number of Yoga styles including Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Yin, and Restorative Yoga. In addition to her regular Yoga classes, she has been trained to teach pre/postnatal Yoga and kids Yoga.

Jiu-Jitsu instructor Brett Turano is a devoted husband, father, and active-duty military. He has coached many sports, including soccer, baseball, wrestling, and Jiu-Jitsu for all age groups for the past 14 years. Though Brett believes that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu stands as the best sport and martial art. He teaches all ages and skill levels at the Silverdale academy as he hopes to use his experience and knowledge to help you become the strongest version of yourself. 

Blue belt Sarah Wettleson was born and raised on Bainbridge Island, WA. Sarah is Snuneymuxw First Nation and Filipina. In 2019 she discovered martial arts through training Jiu-Jitsu and kickboxing. She is a Street Sports Poulsbo competitor who competes regularly. Off the mats, she is a professional wedding photographer and in her free time she likes to make jewelry and be with loved ones. Sarah is a Jiu-Jitsu instructor for the kids Jiu-Jitsu programs at the Poulsbo academy.

Assistant instructor Charlie Grandmont is now a blue belt in Jiu-Jitsu and sophomore at NK high school who aspires to become a future doctor. Charlie believes that the ability for a smaller person to be able to defend themselves against a larger aggressor is one of the best reasons to train in Jiu-Jitsu. Charlie teaches Jiu-Jitsu for kids and beginner programs at the Poulsbo academy.

Laela Maya is an assistant  instructor at Street Sports Poulsbo. Laela is a sophomore in high school and began her Jiu-Jitsu training in 2022.  Laela loves Jiu-Jitsu because it gives her a positive outlet for stress and allows her to learn to defend herself against opponents often greater in size. In her spare time, she can be found with her nose in a book and drinking a hot cup of tea or volunteering her time caring for rehabilitated farm animals at a local Kingston rescue.
