PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Jiu-Jitsu 101 program is designed to introduce new students with no martial arts or athletic background to the art of Jiu-Jitsu.This program offers an overview of Jiu-Jitsu concepts, values, movements, drills, and techniques. Jiu-Jitsu is a self-defense system that promotes dominating the opponent, often larger and stronger, without aggression and through technique and leverage instead. Students will learn both street defense and skills for Jiu-Jitsu sport. Whether or not you continue your training, in this program you will learn potentially life-saving techniques while also gaining an understanding of leverage, positions, and techniques.

Students will learn standing self-defense techniques. From standing positions, how Jiu-Jitsu allows you to transition to the ground for more control. Students will learn the most basic components of Jiu-Jitsu: ground control, the submission, and the escape. Students will learn positional hierarchy of Jiu-Jitsu positions from the top to the bottom. On top, they will learn mount and back controls as well as escape positions from the bottom. Along those lines, students will learn transitions between bottom and top, such as guard sweeps, basic guard passing, and fundamental control techniques. With this newfound control, students are more likely to learn to transition to and from important and fundamental positions to reveal submission opportunities. Students will learn how Jiu-Jitsu uses positioning and submission holds to control an aggressor and how to counter common scenarios such as punches, kicks, locks, and a variety of grips.

After the 101 program students will be prepared to explore more advanced takedowns, drills, guard positions, passes, transitions, and submissions. They will have obtained a comprehensive basic understanding of what Jiu-Jitsu is and can execute many of its most fundamental techniques and be ready to engage in sparring during the fundamental classes if they should choose to do so. Ages 14+
